Tools to Be Used in Baby Photography

baby photographyPhotography covers various subjects and niches. We have portrait photography, wedding photography, nature photography, boudoir photography etc. Is baby photography by Julia and Mia Photography any different from the other forms of photography that exist?

The answer is no and yes! Yes, in the sense that newborn photography has a different subject just like the other forms of photography do. The aim of newborn photography is to capture the development stages of the little child while the aim of wedding photography is to preserve the memories of the union of two individuals. Like we said, the subjects are different!

However, newborn photography is just the same as any other form of photography due to the fact that the means of capturing these images are the same. A baby photographer is likely to use the same tool that a wedding photographer will use to capture the images requested. Also, at the end of the day, these two photographers have one thing in common and that is to ensure that moments are preserved in time.

Now that we have settled what differentiates and unites baby photography with other forms of photography, we can go into the likely tools you are likely to come across in a baby photographer’s studio. Some of them are:

  • Camera

Well, that was obvious from the start. Most images are shot with a camera. Whether a phone camera, video camera or digital camera. What all these forms of camera do is to capture images! It may surprise you to know that phone cameras can very well perform the same job of a digital camera thanks to innovation in modern day technology.

So, if you happen to work into a studio and see your baby photographer utilizing a phone camera for the details, don’t fret. Of course, this does not change the fact that a digital or video camera is still useful.

  • PC or Desktop

After taking the images, most photographers still prefer to carry out editing work on them. Most times, pictures don’t come out perfect and to ensure the images live up to the expectations you have, the photographer is likely going to do some work on them. The editing stage is one of the reasons why some photographers do not release the images immediately. After all, details are everything.

On the PC or desktop of a photographer, you are likely to come across editing software like PhotoShop, Lightroom, Snapseed etc. these are just some of the popular editing tools used to polish the images.

  • Blankets/Soft Foams

The fact that babies are fragile is not new knowledge. They are still in the stage of dependence so it becomes important to ensure that their environment is safe. Baby protection materials are placed around the studio to prevent any harm from befalling the child.

As such, you are likely to see blankets and soft foams. These foams and blankets also serve as props in the images. However, this doesn’t stop you from bringing your own blankets to the studio.

Other tools you are likely to see include:

  • soft box
  • light pods
  • props
